Juan Medina wint CARE Award 2005

Reuters photographer Juan Medina will be presented with the 2005 CARE International Award for Humanitarian Reportage Sept. 1 at the International Festival of Photojournalism in Perpignan, France. Medina won for his images of African immigrants in the Canary Islands. The award was created by CARE France in 1994 with the objective to pay tribute to photographers who bear testimony to major humanitarian catastrophes anywhere in the world.

Juan Medina, born in Buenos Aires, has been a Freelance photographer since 1989. He was a finalist in the 1991 "Mezquita" award, took 2nd place in the 1993 "Premios Constitucion" award given by Fuerteventura Magazine, 3rd place in the 2003 "FotoPres" awards, and was the winner of the 2005 "FotoPres" award. He has been collaborating with the EFE agency since 1999 and with Reuters since 2003. He currently resides in Fuerteventura, in Spain's Canary Islands, covering the flow of people migrating to Europe.
